Suicide Prevention (Satisfies NJ State Requirement)
New Jersey state law requires all teaching staff members to attend two hours of
instruction in suicide prevention by a licensed health care professional as part of
each individual's five-year 100 hour professional development. In this crucial
workshop, school staff members will learn about their limited, but critical, role in
youth suicide prevention. Specifically, participants will learn how to identify risk
factors and warning signs for youth suicide, interact appropriately with at-risk
students, and make referrals to qualified school personnel. Finally, they will gain a
practical understanding of the protective factors that can help reduce the risk of
youth suicide.
